But getting beer to beer drinkers is often threatened with thumb-squashed state based beer distribution laws. In the beer business they call these laws “franchise laws.” Some who feel anger refer to these laws as “monopoly laws.” Issues arise when distributors holding contractual rights to distribute their beers coupled with perceived onerous state “franchise” laws cannot leave to go from one distributor to another at any reasonable price. 2010 World Beer Cup Winners Announced Brewers from six continents earned awards from an elite international panel of judges this week in the 2010 Brewers Association World Beer Cup—the world’s largest-ever commercial beer competition. The eighth bi-annual competition announced awards to brewers from 19 countries ranging from Australia and Italy to Iceland and Japan. This year, 642 breweries from 44 countries and 47 U.S. states vied for awards with 3,330 beers entered in 90 beer style categories. The entries in each category were eligible for gold, silver and bronze awards. Judges presented a total of 268 awards. |

Brewers Association Releases 2009 Top 50 Overall Breweries Lists Boulder, CO • April 14, 2010—The Brewers Association, the not-for-profit trade group that tabulates production statistics for U.S. breweries, released its annual lists reporting the top 50 brewing companies in the country, based on 2009 beer sales volume. The list below contains the Top 50 Overall Brewing Companies. The Top 50 Overall Brewing Companies list contains 76 percent craft brewing companies. “Beer lovers continue to find great value and enjoyment in fuller flavored craft beers,” said Paul Gatza, director of the Brewers Association. “Americans have an increasing appreciation of craft beers, and the growing number of brewers behind them." |
