BURP's Spirit of Free Beer XXI May 11, 2013 Mad Fox Brewing Company Falls Church, VA - The metropolitan Washington DC (DC/MD/VA) area's largest amateur homebrew competition - going strong since 1992!
- Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) qualified judges, who provide entrants with quality feedback in the form of written evaluations containing suggestions for improvement.
- Great prizes such as brewing ingredients/equipment, apparel from well-known breweries, and gift certificates from local merchants. The 2012 competition had prizes with an estimated total retail value of greater than $4000.
- No limit on number of entries per brewer, but entering early is recommended for all.
- All BJCP beer/mead/cider styles accepted. $7 for all entries.
- Is a qualifying event for the Masters Championship of Amateur Brewing (MCAB) competition.
- We invite our fellow homebrewers and beer enthusiasts to participate in this year's SoFB by entering beers, judging, stewarding, or donating prizes.

BURP's Spirit of Free Beer XX The DC area’s largest homebrew competition was held on May 12th at the Mad Fox Brewing Company in Falls Church Va. This was the 20th annual event for the Brewers United for Real Potables (BURP) homebrew club and they had a great turnout. Besides receiving great prizes, winning homebrewers qualify for the Masters Championship of Amateur Brewing (MCAB) competition. This year’s winners included FBI members Julia and Dave Taylor with their 1st place Black Friday Stout - Wood-Aged Beer and Brian Bergquist, Scott & Rod Bergquist for their 3rd place Bock Bock Squishy Bock - Traditional Bock. The James River HomeBrewers Announce: The 19th Annual Dominion Cup - RESULTS
Pro-Am Homebrew Competition August 11, 2012 Congratulations to the Bergquist's (Rod, Brian & Scott) who really dominated the competition. They took 1st in the BOS with their Coconut Porter and 2nd BOS with their IPA.
Hardywood Park Brewery in Richmond will brew their Coconut Porter for entry in the GABF Pro/Am competition! Their 1st place Robust Porter along with a 3rd for their Kolsch, along with points earned for the awards mentioned above, earned them the coveted Plato Award! Others being recognized during the contest are James Tweeddale with his 3rd for Bock, Belgian French, and Imperial IPA and Dave & Julia Taylor with a 2nd for their Stout Dave Taylor and James Tweeddale also combined for some great collaboration brews with their 2nd place wood/smoke beer and 3rd place barleywine. New This Year: Dominion Cup has partnered with Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and will be a Pro-Am Competition. Best of Show will will be brewed by Hardywood Park and entered in the Great American Beer Festival! Scoring by BJCP certified judges and professional brewmasters (not exactly true this year)

The National Homebrew Competition Final Results
Congratulations to Julia and David Taylor for their Gold Medal winning Wood-Aged Beer! They were judged best wood-aged beer out of 335 entries nation wide! Congratulations to the following FBI members who have 1st round NHC entries moving on to the second round:
- Julia and David Taylor: 1st Place in Category 22 - Smoke-Flavored and Wood-Aged Beer
